About The Book

According to prophecy, the fifth sun or fifth world of the Mayan calendar moves into a higher octave of vibration, or ascension, on December 21, 2012. This date represents a ""gateway"" of planetary development that will open humanity to new ways of living and new worlds of opportunity. Ancient traditions have foretold that our successful passage through this gateway depends on the ""fifth root race""--new stock in the human gene pool--destined to help us through the exciting and massive changes ahead. In Beyond the Indigo ChildrenP. M. H. Atwater illuminates the characteristics of the fifth root race, the capstone being the extraordinary ""new children,"" those brilliant and irreverent kids born since 1982. She explores the relationship of the new children to the prophecies in the Mayan calendar and other traditions, providing extensive background information about the seven root races (the sixth and seventh of which haven’t yet appeared) and the great shifting of consciousness already underway. She reveals the connection of the seven root races to the seven chakras, and how the fifth chakra--the chakra of willpower--will be opened for humankind as the new children grow to maturity. She also discusses the phenomenon of soaring intelligence and undeveloped potential and provides concrete guidance and tools for those who seek to understand and help the new children achieve their full potential. Beyond the Indigo Childrenis the first major study of today's children, and their place in our rapidly changing world, that combines objective research with mystical revelation and prophecy.

Chapter Ten
A Peculiar Anger

This is a time for a loud voice, open speech, and fearless thinking. I rejoice that I live in such a splendidly disturbing time.
Helen Keller

Excerpts from children's dream journals, especially in the northeastern United States, show that kids were picking up on the 9/11 attack in New York City before it occurred. Some entries date back two years before. To say that our children know things, that they are attuned to the future and the underlying energies of causation and collective consciousness, is an understatement. Our new kids are almost frightening in the abilities they possess. They're also a pain in the ass. Have you ever tried to raise one? Their mothers and fathers have my sympathy. I'm a grandmother. I can walk away. Parents can't.

The Twin Urges of Evolution and Devolution

As the aura of a person deepens in color, the energy he or she possesses becomes more extreme in how it manifests and in what is necessary to maintain control. Deeper colors signal intensity and the probability of behavior anomalies. The higher frequencies of color (blues, indigos, purples, violets), more so than other colors, carry with them the twin urges of evolution and devolution once they deepen. Simply put: The more one’s energy intensifies, the more powerful one becomes and the more one is capable of doing.

What determines the direction this powerful energy takes? For children, it is supportive families. For adults, it is intention, to improve the self and the conditions of others. The millennial generation that began in 1982 is the first truly global generation in the history of the United States as a nation (and with other nations). As such, they have been swamped by more diversity, demands, and opportunities--more of everything--than any child has ever had to face. As energy continues to intensify, as we move further into ascension, the twin urges of evolution and devolution will become even more extreme and divisive.

As they say in the popular vernacular, "This is where the rubber meets the road." The new kids are angry. That signature for a peculiar kind of anger, appearing in children born since around 1982, exists as an undercurrent just below the surface, and it can be found in even the most loving. Anything that doesn't fit--that is phony, hype, doublespeak, exaggerated, dishonest, or not genuine--can trigger an anger response in these kids that is unlike patterning from previous generations. And because of that undercurrent, the new children can easily be manipulated or used. What is theirs by nature gives them the ability to be detached observers divorced from the normal processes of decision making--made-to-order revolutionaries or rebels or activists or change agents.

Natural Tendencies

According to traditions of Chinese prophesy, we are entering the "fifth turn of the great wheel" when the force of fury will challenge all peoples and children will be born with anger in them; things that happen will be intense and intensely felt. What I have recognized in the young with this anger is an unusual impatience that comes from a strong sense of entitlement, which leads to temper tantrums, frustrated speech, and a bland indifference. These reactions are a natural response to energy that is "spiking," meaning the frequencies are rising faster than most people can cope with. Change comes so rapidly now that it is a challenge for anyone, at any age, to keep up. The touted "children of light" are as sorely pressed as any other children in learning how to handle anger successfully and in dealing with the excesses of privilege or poverty.

Anger is both the Achilles’ heel (the weakest characteristic) and God's gift (the strongest trait) of the new children. True anger simply powers up our energy, motivates us to set things straight and get things done. Rage, on the other hand, is suppressed or repressed emotional baggage (unfinished business) that can surface if anger overheats. The peculiarities of anger, the different ways it can be expressed, offer fifth root race types abundant opportunities to be of service. Because the energy current it rides is hot and spicy, these people will tend to be exceptionally motivated and empowered in whatever they do. They are natural leaders, movers and shakers. Light their fire and they'll reshape the world.

Curiously, there is a link between anger and healing. Get angry enough, really motivated, even to the point of becoming a fighter, and you can lick most illnesses and repair the damage caused by most injuries. Use this energy with care, and you can set the stage for miracles. Anger is power, and that power either pushes or inspires you to move. You get things done in jig time and usually with less effort. But commit that energy to the greater good, offer it in service to help another, and, presto, the power of anger transmutes into healing energy that warms and uplifts and makes whole.

The signature marker for the new children is anger, and these kids are also natural healers. From babyhood on, the new children seem to know what that power current within them is for. Call it instinct. So we have these stories, amazing stories, of children who walk up to people out of the clear blue and offer a hand or a smile or a pat on the cheek, and suddenly the individual feels better. Seldom do the kids display any conscious understanding of their actions. They just do what they do because it feels right. Because of this signature marker in the new children, they will have the energy and the drive to accomplish whatever they need to do. Truly, this is no coincidence. It is a blessing in disguise.

Raves and Reviews

“P. M. H. Atwater’s pioneering work has paved the way for a new way of being and living. Now in Beyond the Indigo Children she beckons us to drop our fears and dogmas and grow into the conscious, spiritual beings that we are. Certainly consciousness has a plan, and she is the guide.”

– Winter Robinson, author of A Hidden Order

“Drawing from her many decades of research and multitudinous sources, Atwater explains the New Children: who they are, why they are here, and how to recognize them. She further explains how human evolution is taking increasing quantum leaps with each wave of children, particularly with regard to their level of intelligence, which is far beyond what anyone might imagine. She provides practical and very helpful suggestions for recognizing, parenting, and enabling these New Children to adjust to and cope with their environment.”

– Roger Pile, Ph.D., parapsychologist and former director of The Center for Gnostic Education

“A fascinating and instructive book that provides a wonderful, grounded ‘voice of reason’ among all the misinformation that’s being bandied around about today’s children.”

– Sandie Sedgbeer, Managing Editor, Children of the New Earth magazine

“Takes the new children--those often termed ‘Indigos’--and places them in a context whose scope boggles the mind. Weaving together metaphysics, legends, new physics, sociology, child development, gifted education, near death experiences, and transformation, Beyond the Indigo Children explains why such children are making waves on the planet and why this is happening now.”

– Betty Maxwell, Associate Editor, Advanced Development journal

"No matter where your interests lie, you will find this book most informative in clarifying historical timelines and the events leading up to this moment in history, at which we seem to be taking an evolutionary leap in our genetics."

– Rahasya Poe, Lotus Guide, Jan-Feb 2006

"Beyond the Indigo Children should be required reading for every parent, teacher, therapist, healer, and doctor who works with children, in order to better understand the spirit of the architects who are rebuilding the way humans will exist on planet Earth, and better support the creation of the most positive future for us all. I give this book my highest recommendation."

– Cynthia Sue Larson, author of Aura Advantage, Karen Kimball & the Dream Weaver's Web, and the online

"Atwater weaves a finely crafted tale of the descent of the human soul from etheric realms of spirit into involvements and entanglements with matter. . . . Her work has provided me with additional wisdom identifying the importance of sharing the keys to the world with children. . . . Through her composition, Atwater has illuminated the fact that what I have witnessed for over twenty years as a Montessori Directress has been the most significant activity that I have ever pursued, i.e. the practice of observing children's remarkable growth and development - experienced on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis in an environment prepared for their exploration. I am again drawn to the assertion that I am watching evolution unfold right before my very eyes in the classroom."

– Carol A. Bye, Montessori educator for over 20 years

"If you care about children and where we, as a species, are heading, then don't miss this book!"

– Children of the New Earth Magazine, March 2006

". . . a satisfying collection of ancient and modern thought on the wisdom of the ages and how it informs the present and explains our new children. . . . This is a book full of fascinating detail, but never loses sight of the responsibility required to bring our new children to their potential. . . . The inescapable conclusion reached is that there is nothing the matter with kids today!"

– Jennifer Hoskins, New Dawn, Mar-Apr 2006

"I highly recommend Beyond The Indigo Children to anyone interested in making sense of the times in which we live. It should be required reading for all educators and parents who are grappling with guiding and caring for this new breed. Nothing less than our future is at stake."

– Julie Gillentine

"[Atwater] offers guidance in dealing with the special challenges associated with nurturing these children to their maturity and facilitating their transition into their responsibilities in leading the earth through the next evolutionary leap."

– Innerchange, April 2006

"Highly recommended, especially for parents, educators, and anyone who is wondering which way is up in today's world."

– Light of Consciousness, Spring/Summer 2006

"Beyond the Indigo Children will interest a wide variety of readers. I recommend it especially to parents of exceptional or problematic children and to those interested in humanity's evolutionary progress."
