Manuscript Submissions

Simon & Schuster UK Ltd are dedicated to publishing a broad and diverse range of books for everyone, representative of the world around us. We are committed to working with and supporting writers, illustrators, and other creative partners from all walks of life, regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, nationality, religion or belief, age, social or economic circumstance.

Like most other UK trade publishers, S&S UK Ltd does not accept unsolicited submissions, proposals, manuscripts, illustrations or artwork directly.

If you’d like your work to be considered for publication by us, please make your submission via a literary agent.

We appreciate this can be a confusing process for new writers to navigate so we recommend consulting The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook for information on finding an agent. It is published annually and is available in bookshops, libraries and online. The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook is a directory of all the UK’s literary agencies and provides the names of individual agents and the genres they represent. This information means you can approach the right agent for your project. It is also full of useful advice, inspiration and practical information.

Literary agents are professionals who represent authors, illustrators and other creatives who are looking for a book publisher and, once a publishing deal has been agreed, continue to work with and support them throughout the publishing process.

Books and the City #DigitalOriginals Publishing Programme

Once a year, on 15th July, the S&S Fiction Editorial team behind the Books and the City community hold an open submission day to prospective new ‘commercial women’s fiction’ authors, enabling them to bypass the traditional route to publishing and submit a pitch directly to them.
